GBA Meeting with Mauritius

GBA hosted its first meeting with Mauritius to collaborate on one of its initiatives

As part of its mission to expedite the uptake of biofuels, the Global Biofuels Alliance facilitated a virtual meeting, where stakeholders from various nations discussed the integration of biofuels into Mauritius’ energy strategies. Led by Mr. George Thomas, Deputy Secretary (IC), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, the discussion was aimed at leveraging the expertise of the Global Biofuels Alliance to facilitate Mauritius’ transition towards sustainable energy via adoption of biofuels. Key points included the importance of understanding specific national landscapes for effective biofuel integration and the potential role of biofuels in transitioning to renewable energy sources

Mauritian representatives highlighted their current energy makeup and their goals to increase renewable energy usage. They focused on the significant role of feedstock in their biofuel industry and explored how Mauritius could navigate its transition journey of integrating biofuels into its energy mix.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the need for international cooperation and policy development to support the global transition to biofuels. Mauritius echoed GBA’s emphasis on the necessity of customized approaches that consider the unique energy, agricultural, and economic conditions of each country. GBA committed to continuing the dialogue, refining strategies, and enhancing collaboration to ensure the effective implementation of biofuels across varying national contexts.
