Roundtable on Global Biofuels Alliance at World Economic Forum, Davos
GBA organized a roundtable at the Congress Centre, World Economic Forum, Davos, Switzerland. The event was graced by the Union Minister, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, and Mr. Alexandre Silveira de Oliveira, Minister of State of Mines and Energy, Brazil along with key stakeholders from the entire spectrum of the biofuels ecosystem, including international organizations, investors, and industry leaders.
The roundtable received inputs from a diverse range of participants within the biofuels value chain, including producers, technology providers, consumers, and logistics companies. Avenues to enhance biofuels adoption at the global level and themes such as harmonizing standards, facilitating sustainable financing structures, ensuring regular supply and building new international markets were discussed.
and GBA’s importance in advancing the adoption of biofuels was commended. With the G20 presidency transitioning from India to Brazil, both Honorable Ministers highlighted the continued focus of the G20 agenda on the Global Biofuels Alliance as a key unlock to biofuels adoption. The current period was dubbed the ‘golden era’ of biofuels by Mr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director, International Energy Agency, highlighting India and Brazil's pivotal roles in promoting global biofuels adoption.
The forum concluded that while there are challenges with scaling biofuels adoption, GBA is well placed to debottleneck these issues and place biofuels on the global energy map.
