IDG gave remarks on priorities laid out by the G20 presidency

At the Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) meeting, the Interim Director General of the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) and Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India, delivered remarks on one of the priority areas for the G20 presidency . Addressing delegates from the G20 nations, the Director General highlighted the critical role of biofuels in ensuring a sustainable, equitable, and inclusive energy future. This transitions, as part of the global efforts under the IEA’s Net Zero Emissions scenario, aims to make low-carbon energy account for up to 70% of the energy mix by 2050, demanding unprecedented international collaboration and commitment.

The address reinforced the G20 nations' commitment to a 'just energy transitions', focusing on minimizing job losses in fossil fuel sectors while maximizing job creation in renewable sectors. The Director General pointed out the importance of biofuels, particularly their potential to reduce carbon emissions significantly and their role in sectors like aviation where they are a primary low-carbon alternative. India's successful ethanol blending initiative was cited as a key example of biofuels' potential to bolster agricultural sectors and enhance energy security. Concluding, the Interim Director General called for strengthened global cooperation to support biofuel policies, highlighting their capacity to contribute to social equity and environmental sustainability. The GBA remains committed to facilitating a socially inclusive decarbonization journey, advocating for supportive policies, and fostering international collaboration to boost biofuel adoption and ensure a healthier, more sustainable world for future generations.
