Global Biofuels Alliance Engages Industry Leaders at World Biogas Summit '24

On 10th July, 2024, the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) convened a panel discussion at the World Biogas Summit, hosted by the World Biogas Association in Birmingham, UK. This gathering brought together key industry stakeholders to explore initiatives aimed at advancing the biogas sector. The panel emphasized the need for refined regulatory frameworks to drive industry growth, enhance the visibility of biogas benefits, and ensure the effective enforcement of regulations and mandates. Discussions highlighted the advantages of scaling operations and improving processes, alongside a strong advocacy for maintaining gas grid networks as crucial infrastructure for sustainable energy. Focus was placed on the valorization of byproducts, advocating for a shift towards the use of organic fertilizers and the establishment of digestate standards to boost market efficiency and profitability.

Panelists also addressed the importance of stabilizing demand through increased market awareness, simplifying administrative procedures to ease market entry, and promoting bio-LNG as a solution for managing excess biomethane. Further, the conversation turned to enabling global access to technology, providing favorable financial conditions in emerging markets, and creating innovative financial instruments specifically tailored to meet the needs of the biogas sector. The panel concluded by championing the applications of biogas, not just as a fuel source but also for producing sustainable products like fertilizers, to satisfy a range of market demands. These comprehensive discussions are set to influence GBA’s strategic direction, affirming a worldwide dedication to nurturing a sustainable and economically thriving biogas sector.
