GBA Events at India Energy Week ’25

The Global Biofuels Alliance established a strong presence in the third edition of India Energy Week’25 including a GBA Pavillion in the Biofuels Zone from 11th February to 14th February. The Pavilion showcased latest findings along with intuitive exhibitions and models to disseminate information about biofuels among the attendees.

GBA achieved a key milestone at IEW ’25, where the Joint Statement on Sustainable Biofuels, developed by GBA, was formally adopted by IEA, IEF, WEF, WLGA and WBA calling for stable policies, collaboration and knowledge sharing and increasing access to finance among other drivers to advance global adoption. This took place on 12th February 2025 during a panel discussion featuring Mr. Pankaj Jain, IDG, GBA, Ms. Mary Warlick (IEA), Mr. Roberto Bocca (WEF), Ms. Charlotte Morton (WBA).

During the discussion, GBA also unveiled its pivotal whitepaper, "Role of Non-Grain-Based (NGB) Biofuels in India’s Energy Transition." which highlights India's potential of leveraging 550 MMT of NGB feedstock, to provide 4-9% of India's energy mix, creating 3-4 million new jobs, and delivering significant economic and environmental benefits. The whitepaper also explores the strategic choices to be navigated while defining the path forward for NGB biofuels, explores global benchmarks and potential interventions to unlock NGB biofuels potential.

GBA also organized a roundtable on “Setting Up Common Definition for Sustainable Biofuels to Accelerate Biofuels Adoption” on 12th Feb ’25. The roundtable participants were addressed by Mr. Pankaj Jain, Interim Director General of GBA and Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India and was attended by 21+ stakeholders spanning policymakers, international organisations, global industry leaders, and academia. Attendees included policymakers from Brazil and Kenya, senior leaders from international organisations like the Clean Energy Ministerial (Biofuture Platform), and World Economic Forum, industry participants like Neste, LanzaTech, Praj Industries, VERBIO India, TruAlt Bioenergy, Honeywell, and Linde.
